Clarkson slated for tobacco link

US pop singer Kelly Clarkson has been criticised for permitting an upcoming gig in Jakarta, Indonesia to be sponsored by a local cigarette brand.

Promotional materials for a unison on 29 April have a logo for LA Lights featured prominently.

This has drawn fire from a number of anti-smoking groups in Indonesia as well as a US who have accused her of being a orator for a tobacco industry.

Clarkson as well as her representatives have nonetheless to respond to a allegations.

In 2008, Alicia Keys apologised to fans in Indonesia after discovering one of her concerts was being sponsored by tobacco firm Philip Morris.

"If Kelly Clarkson goes ahead with this concert, she is selecting to be a orator for a tobacco attention as well as helping them to marketplace cigarettes to children," pronounced Matthew L Myers of a US-based Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

Clarkson, who celebrates her 28th birthday on Saturday, shot to fame after being named a first American Idol-winner in 2002.
