Bafta prize for Coronation Street

Coronation Street's prolongation group will receive the special Bafta Craft prize in the year the soap celebrates its 50th birthday.

Behind-the-scenes staff from the past five decades will be distinguished at the British Academy Television Craft Awards in London upon 23 May.

The soap's executive producer, Kieran Roberts, pronounced he was "delighted".

Dark Yorkshire play Red Riding has landed seven nominations together with best dress as well as prolongation design.

New category

A operation of British writing talent together with Paul Abbott, Jimmy McGovern as well as Kay Mellor have all worked upon episodes of Coronation Street by the years.

"The smashing actors in the early episodes of Coronation Street righteously became celebrated, though at the back of the cameras there were most alternative stars in the bieing born of British television's most successful play serial - author Tony Warren, of course, as well as the writers who followed him," pronounced Roberts.

"Fifty years on, Coronation Street is still brought to life as well as to screen by the huge group of dedicated as well as highly talented people at the back of the camera," he added.

Britain's Got Talent, Top Gear, The X-Factor as well as The Apprentice are all nominated in the brand new party prolongation group category.

Detective play Wallander, which won 4 qualification Baftas in 2009, is nominated in 4 categories this year.

The awards will be hosted by The One Show's Christine Bleakley.
